Rabies is a virus transmitted through the saliva of infected mammals, most commonly dogs. Even a bite, scratch, or lick can transmit the virus into the human bloodstream. Rabies is almost always fatal (99%) if untreated in unvaccinated individuals.

Vaccination is crucial for travel to high-risk areas and should be a top priority.

It's recommended to receive the first dose ideally five weeks before travel to ensure completion of the vaccination course on time. The vaccination schedule consists of three doses: the second dose is administered seven days after the first, followed by the third dose three weeks after the second.
