Influenza Season: October 2025 to March 2026
About Flu Vaccination
Each winter, a new strain of flu emerges, making it vital to get vaccinated annually, even if you were vaccinated last year.
Why Book Your Flu Vaccination Here?
Flu is caused by a virus and can lead to serious illness, resulting in thousands of deaths in the UK each year. Even if you’re not in a high-risk group, flu can be highly unpleasant. If you're not eligible for an NHS vaccine, you can book a private vaccination through this service.
About Flu
Flu symptoms include:
- Fever
- Sweating
- Aches and pains
- Dry cough
- Sore throat
- Headache
- Nausea
Flu symptoms are much more severe than a common cold and can lead to complications like ear infections, bronchitis, and pneumonia.
About Flu Vaccination
A new flu vaccine is developed each year to protect against the four strains most likely to cause outbreaks. It is administered as an injection in the arm.
Vaxigrip (Traditional Egg-Based Vaccine)
What it is: A long-established inactivated flu vaccine made using hens’ eggs. The virus is grown, inactivated (killed), and purified before use.
Who it’s for:
• Adults, including pregnant women
• Children aged 6 months and over
• Can help protect babies under 6 months if the mother is vaccinated during pregnancy
Dose: One injection annually (children under 9 may need 2 doses if receiving the vaccine for the first time).
Common side effects: Soreness at the injection site, mild headache, tiredness, muscle aches, or mild fever (usually short-lived).
Supemtek (Recombinant, Cell-Based Vaccine)
What it is: A newer type of flu vaccine made using cell culture technology instead of eggs. It does not rely on chicken eggs and may be manufactured with greater precision.
Key benefit: May offer a closer match to circulating flu viruses in some seasons.
Who it’s for:
• Adults aged 18 and over
• Not licensed for use in children
Dose: One injection annually.
Common side effects: Soreness at the injection site, headache, tiredness, muscle or joint aches.
